The old website... gone forever. See ya!

The old website… gone forever. See ya!

YES! Our website redesign has arrived, sorry it took so long, but I think it was worth the wait.

We now offer a new look that is not only fresh, techie, and clean, but it also is mobile friendly — something that has been the #1 requested update. We started the upgrade on Sept 9th and things are pretty well set at this point, but design is always an evolving process.

We have also recently updated the way our comments are handled and I think it is really cool. You get emailed a reply to your comment and you don’t have to come back to the site (you still can, if you want), just hit reply to the email, hit send, and the comment will be added to the story.

There will also be changes to our daily story email system. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for our new email list. We will be transition from our old one and we will stop using it in the upcoming weeks. Both the comments and email systems are via PostMatic and so far they have been great to work with and open to taking suggestions for future improvements.

But, for now… WHAT DO YOU THINK? Do you see any problems? Do you like it? Are we missing something? Be honest. Either in the comments or email me:

A big thanks to Alice Fox for her re-design work and making our new site amazing. And really a big thanks to all of you for making AirlineReporter a great home. We don’t need all the fancy trimmings to make this a nice place to hang out, but it doesn’t hurt :).

Whoa… love the new look!

Blaine Nickeson

A lot of work and stress, but totally worth it.

Me too! A few things to work out but the core is there. We are finally clean, professional and mobile friendly. Plus with Postmatic running our comments, I am doing this by replying to my email. Fun stuff.

I concur. The new look is great.

Looks great – especially the comments section!

Me too James — it makes it even more fun to share your thoughts :). And the new features with PostMatic, let you easily reply to comments (just like this one) via replying to your email vs having to come back to the website, log in, and leave your comment. Try it now :)!

I’ve been a reader of this page for a little over a year now, just wanted to let you guys know that your reviews are very well written and interesting! I keep coming back to this page every day hoping that there will be a new story posted! Keep up the good work!

PS. Love the reviews on the airlines from Asia! Hoping you can cover more Cathay Pacific news! 😉

Aaron

Hey Aaron,

Thanks for reading. We have been trying to do more reviews on airlines based in Asia. Based on the engagement we have seen from readers and others — there is high demand.

David | AirlineReporter

Nice very nice indeed.

Thanks Rob for reading and I am glad you like the new look!

Hey Patrick

We are all about making our Aussie readers happy! As long as you are good with the colours :).

Hi David, I’ve been an avid reader almost since day 1. Although the old design looked a bit dated, I still like it more than this because there’s more space dedicated to the content. Maybe you can dial the new design back a bit as the look seems to be more dominant than the content?

Hey Edison,

Thanks for your feedback and for reading so long!

I would love to learn a bit more about wanting to see more content. As it was, we have a bar on the left and right with extra links, ads and such.
Now, it is just one bar on the right, which is smaller than the old two bars combined. On the homepage, it has the same amount that is previewed before having to click on the “read more,” and the full page seems to have more space. But I might be missing something and would love to learn more.
Feel free to keep the conversation here, or you can also email me:

Hi David,

Congrats for the new design!

Loving it and supporting it. Left a few more detailed notes at the end of a story; hope you found them. Best of all, my girl friend, the best Sky Hag of the IPA crowd is still with us. She is real. She is still flying. She has many sisters. This one flies for [Redacted: Classified] Airlines and is based in [Redacted: Classified]. Best wishes…

John musynske

Kudos to all!

Hello again David,
It looks like you’ve made a few more tweaks in the new website design, perhaps small behavioral items. I’m adapting and I like the presentation, except for the rather dull colors. The only serious objection is a carry-over from the old design… At the very end of each comments section there is a check box marked, “Participate in this conversation via email.” Many sites offer this, but AR is the only one that I’ve seen that defaults to a check mark, in other words, YES. I think that is a mistake. While a great option for some, IMO the default should be blank, allowing the reader to check it if s/he wishes. Otherwise, the organization and presentation looks great and the posts seem easier to read. Great job!!
-C.

Hi Cook,

Yadda, yadda, yadda, I just read “great job!!” 🙂

You bring up an interesting point about the comments. I have always assumed that other websites do that, but then when I am now looking many, do, but not all. I love our new commenting system, but it does subscribe you to all comments, when you leave one comment, which can be a bit annoying, if that is not what you want.

This is an always evolving process… and things should keep changing!

Thanks,

David | AirlineReporter

Yup. Nearly constant evolution. As a whole, the new presentation is impressive. I’m especially please to note that the Sea-Tac/Renton area’s favorite image, that of the ad for Sky Hag IPA has survived onto the new page. Is she a relative ? Best wishes to your entire team. -C.

Hey David,

Having the *Participate…* checkbox on by default is a setting in Postmatic. You can disable it in WordPress.

Best,
Jason

Hi I like the new logo it think it is a great fit and I am looking forward to the new stickers.

Only 2100 of the “A” wing logo stickers left to go before the redesign comes out 🙂
