I am sitting at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport once again (and enjoying their free wi-fi). I am off to Atlanta to do some cool things with AirTran for the next few days. Just in time, I have been getting that desire to get airborne again!
I am going to learn some aspects of being a a flight attendant at AirTran’s training facility, which will kick off a new series on my blog where I explore different airline related jobs. You can expect some blogs on my adventure in the near future and until then follow my Twitter.
Because of scheduling I am actually going to be flying a red-eye on US Airways to Charlotte, then down to Atlanta. It will be a long night, but who needs sleep? US Airways just announced they have started providing GoGo Inflight WiFi on a few of their Airbus A321’s. Just so happens I am flying a A321 to Charlotte. Part of me hopes it doesn’t have WiFi so I can get some sleep.
Last week Southwest Airlines had a commercial poking fun that passenger’s bags don’t fly for free on other airlines. The plane used in the ad was an AirTran Boeing 717 (even though the name was blurred out). Well, AirTran fights back with this funny (and creative) ad showing Southwest passengers as cattle and a little “yee-haw” action to boot.
Most people might have not realized that was an AirTran Boeing 717 used in the Southwest ad, but it is quite obvious that it is Southwest Airlines in the AirTran ad.
Man I love a good advertisement war. Southwest, it is your move :).
Dan Webb over at Things in the Sky asked today “What’s Wrong With This Southwest Ad?” and I found one of the two things off with it. Can you find both or even more?
For airline livery nerd, you can see the plane shown is an AirTran Boeing 717 (with logos and registration number hidden).

I have mentioned a few times in my blog that for my “real” job I work at a local university. Right now the students are about ready to have finals. You can always tell since the library gets full and students start to have stressed looks on their faces (how I do not miss those days). But with finals, soon comes a well deserved spring break.
Enter AirTran’s U program, which allows college students to purchase cheap standby tickets — arriving just in time for those spring breaks. There are two things most college students like: FaceBook and saving money and AirTran is happy to meet those needs.
AirTran is also launching the Creeper Sweepstakes (people surfing FaceBook are called “creepers”) via the AirTran U FaceBook page where college students can win a free round-trip ticket on AirTran.
My mother still tells me stories when she was in college she would always fly standby on the cheap. At a time when we hear more and more about airlines charging to fly standby, it is refreshing to see an airline to help college students have an awesome spring break.
This video gives a great inside look at the process of painting a plane in a special livery. As a big fan of airline livery, I always love seeing the special liveries that airlines come up with. I just with the industry had more!
