Three videos that teach you Wi-Fi do's and don'ts

Three videos that teach you Wi-Fi do's and don'ts

A while back I was able to fly to Baltimore and be a part of AirTran’s wifi unveiling. I was excited to see the new technology first hand, but was disappointed when my AirTran flight back to Seattle didn’t have WiFi. Well, now there is no more wondering! 100% of AirTran’s planes now have WiFi. The beauty of all aircraft on a single airline having WiFi, is you no longer have to wonder. You know by flying on AirTran or Virgin American you will be able to enjoy WiFi.

To assist with folks getting use to having the internet in close proximity of other people, AirTran has created a website to teach you about Internetiquette (awesome word). It has three funny videos and an online brochure. Bonus points for anyone who can take a picture while looking at these on an AirTran flight!

In an age where almost everyone has an Debit or Credit Card and that airlines are charging for more things on flights than just movies and alcohol, it seems obvious that airlines should be taking credit cards in flight.

Going cashless has many benefits (not having to have cash on the plane, don’t have to ask for change, encourages people to spend more, etc), but some flight attendants are worried what happens if the card reader doesn’t work? And there are concerns that the credit cards will slow down service.

Although airlines that have already implemented the service show there is a learning curve, but once learned, service can actually pick up.

Virgin America probably has the coolest system where you can order items on the entertainment module in the seat back and actually swipe your credit card there.

Current American cashless airlines:
* United Airlines: Since late April
* AirTran
* American Airlines by June 1
* JetBlue
* AirTran
* Southwest Airlines
* Sun country Airlines
* Frontier Airlines
* Alaska Airlines
* USA3000
* MidWest Airlines
* Virgin America
There could be more — there doesn’t seem to be a full list of airlines and I tried to search down as many as I could.

Although the additional charges might be bothersome, at least most airlines are making an effort to make paying them easier.

People representing AirTran contacted me the other day asking if I would like to have them fly me over to Baltimore to go on a “special flight” where they will make public to the world what will be on every AirTran flight (I kinda hope it is more cowbell). This Monday I will fly out of Seattle, WA non-stop to Baltimore, of course on AirTran, to prepare for the big reveal early Tuesday morning.

I just hope they don’t send me over as they show in one of their commercials above!

What do you want on every AirTran flight you are on? That is a question that — surprise, surprise — AirTran is asking people. They have created a nifty site EveryFlight.com and allows you to give not only suggestions, but also rate those suggestions.

Some of my personal favorites that answer the question “I want __________________ on every AirTran flight”:

– Chuck Norris
– Your Mom
– Salsa Lessons
– Optimus Prime
– Strobe Lights
– Helper Monkeys
– More cowbell
– Fondue
– Clowns
– Slip N Slide
– Pony Rides

Man, I couldn’t even make some of these up if I tried. To see more, sign up for a free seat on every flight or submit your own, check out the website!
