Surinam Airways Boeing 747-300 (PZ-TCM)

Surinam Airways Boeing 747-300 (PZ-TCM)

Surinam Airways was founded in 1955 and is the national airline of Surname. It is fully owned by the Suriname’s government and operates to only nine destinations. The airline currently only has a fleet of three aircraft, one Airbus A340-300 and two Boeing 737-300’s. In November 2009, Surinam Airways purchased the Airbus to replace the Boeing 747-300 in the photo.

Can you notice the slight changes of livery on the newer Airbus 340 versus the older Boeing 747-300.

Kuban Airlines Boeing 737-300 (VQ-BHD) with sunflower livery

Kuban Airlines Boeing 737-300 (VQ-BHD) with sunflower livery

Kuban Airlines was founded back in 1932 as a division of Aeroflot, in Krasnodar, Russia. In 1992 it was mostly privatized with the state owning 51% and the employees owning 49%.

This February Kuban Airlines added three Boeing 737-300’s to its fleet with a brand new livery. The airline also flies 12 flew Yakovlev Yak-42D’s in their old livery. They fly to about 18 domestic destinations, but will also fly chartered international flights.

If you know Russian, you can learn more about them on their website.

Thanks Yvette for this find!

Germanwings Airbus A319 (D-AKNF) with Park Inn Hotels livery

Germanwings Airbus A319 (D-AKNF) with Park Inn Hotels livery

I love special liveries. I am even ok when a livery advertises something to make the airline a little money. However, some liveries just go too far and I think this might be one of them.

First of all, it almost gives me a headache to read what the side of the plane says. Secondly, I just get confused looking at a head-on shot of the plane. Third…well I hate to admit it, but it does get my attention.

By looking at the livery you surely know it is advertising the Park Inn Hotels which love their nice colored boxes. But it might take a little more searching to find the airline flying this plane  (hint: check the engines).

This is an Airbus A319 flying for the airline Germanwings. The airline is based out of Germany and is a low-frills airline. It has a fleet of about 25 Airbus A319’s and flies to just over 65 destinations.

The airline is known for its special liveries. You can check out their T-Mobile airline livery, the popular Bearbus livery, the other T-Mobile livery,  the HamburgShopper livery, the “Mhhhh, Baden-Wurttemberg” livery and I kind of like their “normal” livery.

Wow, that is seven airline liveries in just one post. That has to set a new record!

Uzbekistan Airways is the flag carrier of (can you guess?) Uzbekistan. It was founded in 1992 and is owned by the government. They fly to about 50 destinations, mostly into Europe, although there is a flight to New York.

They have a very diverse fleet of aircraft including: A300-600RF, A310-300, A320-200, Boeing 757-200, Boeing 767-300ER, Il-76, Il-114, Tu-154, and Avro RJ85. They also have an order in for two Boeing 787 Dreamliners. There are rumors Uzbekistan Airways might be joining the SkyTeam alliance, allowing its passengers greater reach around the world.

Thai Airways Boeing 747-4D7 HS-TGO in newer airline livery

Thai Airways is the national carrier (can you guess) of Thailand. It was founded in 1960. It is almost 54% owned by the Thai Government and has achieved profit over the last 40 consecutive years.

As of October 2009, Thai Airways had almost 100 aircraft. The largest being a Boeing 747-400 and smallest an ATR-72. The airline also owns a 39% stake in Nok Air.

Check out a video that shows a Boeing 747-400 landing with old livery, then one with new livery. You can also see two Boeing 777’s next to each other — one with the new and one with the old livery.
