You remember being a kid and splashing in the puddles? Well, I guess I sometimes get in the mood to do it as an adult to. Take the excitement of jumping in puddles, add a Boeing 747-8 and you have total awesomeness.
One of the tests the Boeing 747-8 must go through is a water spray test before getting certification. Boeing created a large puddle and ran the 747-8 through it at 30, 40, then finally at 50kts to see how the water would react to the body.
The test was conducted in Glasgow, Montana and Bernard Choi with Boeing Communications told me, “The airplane and engines performed as designed.”
What flies, is the best selling jetliner in history and is getting some new insides? That’s right… the Boeing 737. Boeing is getting closer to finishing the first new Boeing 737 “Sky Interior.”
Forty five airlines and leasing companies have ordered the Boeing Sky Interior for more than 1,100 airplanes; that’s half of Boeing’s 737 backlog. It will be the new standard in the single-aisle market.
The first Boeing 737 with a completed interior will be done by the end of October, until then, you can check out their process in this video.

Helicopters pretty much rock. One of the downsides is they can be a bit slow. No more says Sikorsky! The Sikorsky X2 takes helicopter speed to the next level. This video was taken on September 15, 2010 and it is a test flight of the X2 where it reached 260kts during a shallow dive and 250kts in level flight.
What’s better than a Boeing 787 Dreamliner first flight video? One with commentary from Boeing employees, including the lead pilot Christine Walsh. The sixth 787 Dreamliner took to the skies on October 4th and had a successful (yet shortened) first flight.

Ah, to travel the way it used to be. Think you have it hard now with little leg room and peanuts? Go back to the late 1200’s and travel with Marco Polo, talk about having it rough. I am sure he would have LOVED to pay for a little bag fee to travel 4000 miles in a few hours versus three years.
Anyhow, Mr. Polo recently celebrated his Birthday and the fine folks over at Team Marco Polo made a fun celebration video (there might be someone familiar at the Future of Flight in that video). I talked about this very funny Seattle based kids travel show a while back and they are still moving forward.
